How the checker works

Website. We look up the domain's registration record: how recently it was registered, whether the owner is hidden behind a privacy service, and the registrar, then confirm it loads over HTTPS and cross-reference our own reported scam list. A brand-new domain with hidden ownership is one of the strongest scam signals there is.

Phone. US numbers work with or without the +1. We validate the number, look up its carrier and line type in a carrier database, flag VOIP and virtual lines that scam call centers rely on, and check it against numbers reported to us. For live spam scores from other users, we point you to services like Truecaller and Whoscall.

Email. We check the format, whether the domain has mail servers, whether it is a disposable or free provider, and whether the address or its domain is on our reported list.

A score is a signal, not a verdict

No automated check is perfect. A high score does not prove a site is safe, and a low score does not prove fraud. Use this alongside common sense and the red flags on our scam websites and scammer profiles pages.
